Ladysmith Has Balls 2009!

On the morning of Saturday, June 20, 2009, fun was had by all at the first annual “Ladysmith Has Balls” fund raising race. At 11am, 2,500 numbered balls were dropped from the top of High Street. Watch the video…
The first ball across the winning line at 1st Avenue was #2390 winning the ticket holder Doc Docksteader the first prize of $500.00, pictured below. Second ball across the line was #367 winning the ticket holder Elsie Wilson the second prize of $300.00. Third ball across the line was #1492 winning ticket holder Rob Hutchins the third prize of $200.00. Also pictured is “He-who-writes-the-cheques,” Brian Van Acker, treasurer of the Ladysmith Celebrations Society. Congratulations to all!

Special thanks to Shar-Kare, Ladysmith Home Hardware, Ladysmith Kinsmen, Ladysmith Public Works Department, Peter Higgs, the Ladysmith Ambassadors, the Ladysmith Downtown Business Association and the Town of Ladysmith for their generosity and assistance, which made the event a great success. Thanks also to the residents and businesses on High Street for their understanding and cooperation during the closure of High Street. Thanks also to the team from the Ladysmith Celebrations Society for their hard work in organizing and facilitating the race.
All the money raised will help cover some expenses for Ladysmith Days, an annual family fun event for 42 years in Ladysmith. which is dependent on such volunteer-driven fund raising activities for its continued existence.
