The 49th Parallel Grocery stores are owned and operated by Wayne and Harmina Richmond. The Richmonds purchased the 49th Parallel Grocery store in Ladysmith, August of 1977. Since then, 3 more stores have been added to the 49th family in Cedar, Chemainus, and Duncan locations.

In the Beantime Café opened in March 2006 at 18 High St., Ladysmith BC. The goal of the owners Scott Hull and Campbell McIntyre was to create a warm, comfortable atmosphere that the people of Ladysmith could gather and meet for great food and coffee.
The heritage building (circa 1899) that houses the café fits the persona of the café itself. Featuring homemade bread, homemade soups daily, fresh baked goods, and an in house coffee roasting facility; In The Beantime Café really does possess the values of years gone by.
The focus on friendly service and treating every customer with the utmost respect is a philosophy the both owners truly believe in. With a diverse menu of breakfast items, sandwiches, wraps, fruit smoothies, daily specials and hot food items, there is something for everyone.
The Beantime also boasts a large outdoor patio to be enjoyed in the summer months. We are open everyday from 7am to 5pm and 8am-5pm on Sundays.
