FILMING NOTIFICATION LETTER

September 13th, 2021

Dear Neighbours of Downtown Ladysmith:

Resident Alien logoGEP Resident Inc. is returning to Ladysmith to film scenes for the TV series, “Resident Alien” from September 19th to September 22nd, 2021. Production will be filming in various locations along 1st Avenue, Roberts Street, and Gatacre Street. Our Production would like to provide you with information to help you prepare for our arrival and anticipate how our activity might affect your daily routine.

Please note, that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and our concern for helping to limit community transmission of the virus, we are following the recommendations of WorkSafe BC, in conjunction with the Provincial Health Officers’ orders and recommendations.

Starting Thursday, September 16th, 2021, GEP Resident Inc. will begin occupying various street parking and parking lots around town, including:

  • The Roberts Street Parking Lot, 17 Roberts Street (beginning at 7:00am)
  • The Traveller’s Hotel Parking Lot, 127 Gatacre Street (after 6:00pm)
  • The Fisherman’s Wharf Lot, 901 Ludlow Road (after 6:00pm)
  • The 900 block of Oyster Bay Drive

The morning of September 23rd, 2021, Production trucks and equipment will begin vacating the above lots, opening portions of them back up to the general public.

Whilst we are filming, and for logistical support, Production will also require blocks of parking stalls along 1st Avenue between Roberts Street and Gatacre Street, and on Roberts Street between 1st Avenue and the Island Highway. We will make every effort to best accommodate ay short term parking needs, and production personnel will be ready to help answer any questions or assist pedestrians whilst filming is taking place. All businesses in Town remain OPEN as usual.

The following is a general guideline of our planned activities:

Thursday, September 16th, 2021 – 7:00am to 7:00pm (approximately)

  • A small crew will be working on 1st Avenue and Roberts Street, preparing various exteriors for filming, including Traveller’s Hotel (422 1st Avenue).

Friday, September 17th, 2021 – 7:00am to 7:00pm (approximately)

  • A small crew will be working on 1st Avenue and Roberts Street, preparing various exteriors for filming, including Barnacle Barney’s (341 1st Avenue) and Traveller’s Hotel (422 1st Avenue).

Saturday, September 18th, 2021 – 7:00am to 7:00pm (approximately)

  • Crews will be working on 1st Avenue and Roberts Street, preparing various exteriors for filming, including the Ladysmith & District Credit Union (330 1st Avenue), Barnacle Barney’s (341 1st Avenue), and Traveller’s Hotel (422 1st Avenue). Equipment trucks will arrive in Ladysmith and park in the assigned lots mentioned above. Rigging crews will complete their prep of the filming areas.

Sunday, September 19th, 2021 – Production begins filming in Ladysmith

  • 7:00am to 9:00am (approximately) – Prep crews will finalize preparations.
  • 9:00am to 3:00pm (approximately) – Production will be filming in and around the 300 block of 1st Avenue and on the 0 block of Roberts Street. At times, much like on our last visit, we have asked the Town of Ladysmith to permit us to temporarily close Roberts Street to Local Traffic Only. While filming this scene we will conduct intermittent traffic control, as well as a temporary closure, at times, to Local Traffic Only.
  • 3:00pm to 6:00pm (approximately) – Production will film in the 400 block of 1st Avenue in front of, and across from, Traveller’s Hotel.
  • 6:00pm to 10:00pm (approximately) – Production has requested permission to close the 400 block of 1st Avenue from 6:00pm to 11:00pm in order to film a night-based scene in the center of the street. This block will be closed to vehicular traffic only. Pedestrians may be held intermittently while the cameras roll. RCMP and JSK Traffic will assist with the diversion around set. Lighting lifts will be used and the area may appear brighter than usual.

Upon completion of the day’s work, crew will quietly secure their gear and leave the area by 11:00pm.

Monday, September 20th, 2021

  • 7:00am to 10:00am – Production staff return to finalize preparations.
  • 10:00am to 2:00pm (approximately) – Filming will begin in the 400 block of 1st Avenue. During these scenes, RCMP and JSK Traffic conduct single-lane alternating traffic around a picture-vehicle parked on the East side of the street. We will also conduct brief periods of intermittent traffic lockups while the cameras roll. We will also film a brief shot that will require the temporary closure of the lane between Traveller’s Hotel and For Pet’s Sake.
  • 2:00pm to 5:00pm – Filming will be focused in the 0 block of Roberts Street in front of the Chamber of Commerce and on the corner of 1st Avenue.
  • 5:00pm to 10:00pm – Filming will move down Roberts Street and be focused in and around the Robert Street Parking Lot.

Upon completion of the day’s work, crew will quietly secure their gear and leave the area by 11:30pm.

Tuesday, September 21st, 2021

  • 7:00am to 10:00am – Production staff will final preparations.
  • 10:00am to 1:30pm – Filming will begin in the 400 block of 1st Avenue between the Traveller’s Hotel and Wigwam. During these scenes, RCMP and JSK Traffic conduct single-lane alternating traffic around a picture-vehicle parked on the West side of the street. We will also conduct brief periods of intermittent traffic lockups while the cameras roll.
  • 1:30pm to 6:00pm – Filming various scenes in the 400 block of 1st Avenue between Roberts Street and Wigwam.
  • 6:00pm to 11:00pm – Filming in the 400 block of 1st Avenue. Production has requested permission to close the 400 block of 1st Avenue from 6:00pm to 11:00pm in order to film a night-based scene in the center of the street. This block will be closed to vehicular traffic only. Pedestrians may be held intermittently while the cameras roll. RCMP and JSK Traffic will assist with the diversion around set. Lighting lifts will be used and the area may appear brighter than usual.

Upon completion of the day’s work, crew will quietly secure their gear and leave the area by 11:59pm (Midnight).

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2021

  • 7:00am to 11:00am – Crew will return to finalize preparations.
  • 11:00am to 8:00pm – Filming in the parking lot behind St. John’s Masonic Lodge (26 Gatacre Street).
  • 8:00pm to 10:00pm – Filming in the 400 block of 1st Avenue.
  • 10:00pm to 11:00pm – Filming at the corner of 1st Avenue and Roberts Street.

Upon completion of the day’s work, crew will quietly secure their gear and leave the area by 11:59pm (Midnight).

Thursday, September 23rd, 2021

  • 7:00am to 7:00pm – Wrap crews will return to remove all dressing from the streets. All sets will be wrapped out, and all Production infrastructure will leave the Town of Ladysmith.
